It's for a pianoforte (wooden framing). The original diameter was 1,025 mm.
Do you think this is too much for a copy of a Dulcken of 1795?

I am actually scared by your question!!
First of all, by "tension", since you express it in kilograms, you obviously
mean "pull", or total tension of the string against the case.
(there is another important "tension", the specific one of the strings
against its own mateerial, in kg/sq.mm of cross section, and is important to
find out whether a string will or not break).
Secondly, yours and David calculations are more or less accurate, but 17.5
kgs is much above what a harpsichord is meant to stand per string!
WARNING: Do NOT install this string, as you will damage the harpsichord!
Historical harpsichords never had more than 8kg. of pull per string!
The error is easy to find. For example, historical French Harpsichords had
their largest wire gauge "00". Wraight's reconstruction for this is 0.63mm.
In the extreme bass it yields a "pull" of about 6kg, not 17!
The largest size in my 40-off collection of harpsichord replacement wires is
.025" or 0.64mm. This is a bit more than half your diameter, and explains
why your very high size yields 3 times as much.
Where did you get the idea of using 1.15 mm wire on a harpsichord?
(I am curious!)
