a small side-note to Chris:
For the top treble notes in an instrument with a stretched scaling, where nice wire such as Nuremberg Iron might get in trouble, it may help to know that Stephen Birkett makes an extra strong variant of his thinnest wires. Also, Vogel's Westfalisches Eisen seems to have the highest breaking point among the historical iron wires. In several instruments where the top treble  was on the long side, I succesfully used either  Birkett's stronger wire or the Westfalisches Eisen.
