Herr Beurmann used to keep many of his instruments quite a bit below
the (assumed) intended pitch level, - for reasons of conservation.
Generally this makes them sound quite dark and this, as I repeatedly
experience, fascinates many of the players and listeners that visit
the collection.
After a concert with the instrument in question (20 years ago), G.
O'Brien asked me with a smile on his face, whether I thought, this
was what the Ruckers' would have sounded like. He was quite sure that
the actual sound didn't have a lot to do with that...
