One of Tom Goff's two-manual harpsichords (dated 1958) was just auctioned
this morning as no. 22 in in the Richard Burnett Collection sale (by
Dreweatts) in the UK. The hammer price was 3,800 pounds sterling (= 4,712
pounds with the auctioneers' fees).

Is it right that he and Cobby only made 15 of them? (Unlike the
clavichords, of which there were over 100.)

The best bargains seem to have been the organs, almost all of which sold
for well under the estimates. Someone bought the "late seventeenth-century"
chamber organ ("circa 1680 and late") for only 9,000 pounds.

On the whole the lots sold well, raising a substantial sum for the
Finchcocks Charity for Musical Education. And so one great collection is
dispersed as its instruments now enter other collections...

Best wishes,
DM
