 >>faster than translation is synoptic transmission: briefly - Is ET good
for music from the early 19th century? The authors present all the
relevant concepts and arguments in this book, and, with the
accompanying cd, give you the opportunity to grasp these abstract
matters in sensuous form, and decide for yourself what is at stake in
the arguments about temperament.<<

"All the relevant concepts and arguments..."?

Not quite. It's the flawed (but unfortunately typical) argument that
the presentable unequal temperaments have basically the same harmonic
shape as one another. The other unequal temperaments that differ from
that shape aren't brought to the table.

Look at THIS shape, or look at the null shape (equal temperament) over
there, to make your decision about equal vs unequal. Definitely don't
look at THOSE OTHER shapes.... Don't consort with those others from the
wrong side of the train tracks! Don't even point at them.
