We have four Italianate instruments That all sound very happy in
1/4-comma. The one actual Italian antique also sounds great , but it is
strung with P-wire . It is too foreshortened in the bass to be strung in
brass (it can be, but much better now.

It sounds like mysticism to say an Italian should be in meantone, but it
really sounds that way to  me.
