Oh there are so any musical ghosts and spirits to be enjoyed!! The place of the first pianos…the place of the early experiments in monody at the beginning of the Baroque…Joaquin and the Medici…Handel….gosh…and though I am sure there is a good museum to see instruments…I urge you to fill your days with the art there.

Not to miss… The Bargello with the work of Donatello (his David and his Mary Magdalene!!!) The Academia with the David of Michelangelo….The Offizi (get your tickets online our you may have a 3 hour wait to get in..This is an all day visit…Primavera and the Birth of Venus are only the tip of the berg!) The Piti…..The Tomb (La Notte) of Michelangelo…Several palaces…read some Dante before you go…Dont miss for anything the Chapel with the Masaccio expulsion from the Garden of Eden—it is shockingly heart breaking…don’t miss the Brunaleschi chapel (Patti Chapel? My age is stealing away all the names…)

There is no way to avoid the flood of creativity and the flowering of humanism that rushes all around you there.
Try to get a hotel room with a window away from the street courtyard is best…I stayed in the Porta Rossa, very evocative of ROOM WITH A VIEW…but again avoid windows on busy streets… the inheritors of the Renaissance are very noisy in the night.

If you have a moment to go out of town but nearby Prato and Pistoia are wonderful jaunts…

Im envious of the first time… I hope you love it.
