Excuse me, I meant Christophe Rousset.

Hi Claudio!
So good to hear from you!
I was not necessisarily extoling the virtues of Mr. Rondeau’s interpretaions but more his presence - nothing wrong with popularizing the harpsichord a bit for the masses - this is what led many people (myself included) to look into baroque music more deeply in the first place. After all when I was growing up the only place I heard a harpsichord was on the Addams Family and once in “Love is Blue” Ugh!
The fact that you can now find Mr Rondeau comparing Royer and Rameau on Youtube and selling CD’s like hotcakes to me can only be a healthy phenomenon.
Once the average Youtuber sees Mr Rondeau, I have no doubt that it will lead him or her to look further and discover many of the other wonderfull artists out there as mentioned by Mathew, plus undoubtedly older ones like Scott Ross and Christophe Rouseau.
Cheers,
Tom

Hi Tom, how are you!
Maybe you would indeed, but this is no indicator of how good M. Rondeau's
interpretation is. More generally, I have many times voiced my disagreement
with some relatively recent "fads", for example:
1) playing all slow movements non-mesuré,
2) playing mostly a careful selection of French pieces that do not require
inégalité,
3) playing fast movements with a virtuosity that in many cases contradict
the technique they were expected to be played with.
And therefore:
1) I belong to those who would be very unhappy to play like M. Rondeau.
2) I am very happy instead that some top specialists in French Baroque (at
least one of them a renowned member of our list) do NOT follow the above
"fads", and are very stylish performers of French Baroque music.
