Martin,
It definitely seems from what others have written (e.g. Rodney, whose
instrument has lived a long time on the ocean) that your problem lies
with the envelopes. But I now think that the waxed paper suggestion
is over the top. I would second Anne in recommending "zip"-sealable
plastic bags (e.g. US TM; Ziploc) of the sort sold in supermarkets
for storing meat in freezers and preventing freezer burn
(q.v.). These are about as airtight as one can get, or needs (they
stop my silver from tarnishing in a hostile city environment) and are
easily obtainable -- unless you are a longway from what is jokingly
called "civilization".
