Hi all,
I have a Baldwin solid-body electric harpsichord. Its jacks suffer from the same design feature (flaw?) as that of the Burton jacks which I’ve encountered: plectra which are molded to the tongues which are molded to the jack.
Over their 40-year life, these plectra have become too stiff to play.
I have a handful of replacement jacks which appear to be younger than originals and which have flexible, healthy plectra that feel good when playing and which produce desirable tone. I cannot find a source for more replacement jacks.
I would like to give the instrument a pleasant touch and sound.
My best idea so far is to cut off the original tongues and retrofit the jacks to house other tongues which are morticed for delrin plectra, but I thought it best to first consult the collective experience of the mailing list.
Does anyone have any advice?
Many thanks,
- Landon from NJ
