Hi,

as Bill Jurgenson used to quip, it is all in the list archives (search for my name and Froberger please).

The four imperial Habsburg courts in Vienna, Prague, Innsbruck and Graz, all had at least 19-note/octave instruments in Froberger's time, organs (Prague, Graz) and harpsichords (Vienna, Innsbruck), and one or two had even 31-note/octave harpsichords.

Btw, the compass for all Froberger’s output matches the 19-note meantone range from g-flat, d-flat, a-flat … to … a-sharp, e-sharp, b-sharp.

Performance in a non-meantone temperament is of course possible today in order to avoid retuning (especially in front of an audience!), but one can doubt the relevance of such a temperament for Froberger.

Kind regards

Ibo
