I also use 1/6 comma meantone on my 1784 Hubert, and actually on all my
18th-century keyboards. It seems to suit the music, which is the
compelling reason in my view. Regarding equal temperament in the 18th
century, I suspect that what may be meant is a temperament playable in all
keys. Owen Jorgensen believes that there did not exist a "perfect" equal
temperament until into the 20th century. This would coincide with the
varied key colors (due to temperament) that I hear in music even through
the late 19th century.
