I have a most peculiar query. Among the makers here any of you given much thought, that you would be willing to share, to ornamentation and improvisation. I don't mean in playing the instrument but in building the instrument. However I do mean within the confines of the style and period of which we find the originals we're replicating represented. I've heard many times of makers know for their slavish copies moving onto making " in the style". I as well recall when I was making instruments full time, eventually I would strive to personalize my instruments yet remain true to the style and intention of the original.
Thank you, Stephen
