dont know what sort of a place monterey is, but botanically, it was,
during the last age of glaciation, like the tippity-tip of mt ararat in the
flood, a place where tree species genomes just barely survived, in the
phenotypic forms of stunted twigs. Not certain but I think the first place
to see this tree's fully native phenotypic expressive potential might have
been a park in London, where gawking Jacks cricked their necks to watch it
pierce the clouds before spitting in their palms to seek their
lofty fortunes
