As I said, it was a remark. As far as I remember when Chris saw the first of the 2 harpsichords - the walnut one - he asked about the absence of either a rose or a gap in the belly rail. When I explained that there was neither (of course it was obvious there was no rose), and that it was singing nicely he said something like "that's the end of another theory then", the theory being that some communication between inside and out is beneficial. As I said, I don't have a theory, but I would certainly think twice about making a harpsichord without any communication between inside and out, even if the original design had none.
