This raises a most important point about 
clavichord recordings: if you have never heard a 
clavichord live, you have no idea how soft they 
are, and therefore where to set the playback volume control.

All the videos I have seen with Mr Winters, when 
played at normal settings, come out at least 20dB 
louder than real life.  The only one that has a point of reference seems to be
http://www.authenticsound.be/a-composer-meets-my-clavichord-2/ 
which has speaking on it and also introduces the 
concept of the subtlety of touch required to make musical sounds.
