Recently I recalled someone mentioning the "Pluck-O-Meter" on this forum some months ago, so a few days ago I searched the archives and found the original thread. In a post in 2004 Peter Redstone published a link to a photo of his Pluck-o-meter, but the link is now dead (see a copy of his posting below).

Does anyone have that photo? If so, could you email it to me offline or post a link to download it (for example, a shared file in Dropbox).

By the way, if you've got some time, search the forum and read some of Mr. Redstone's postings. They're really delightful and you can learn a lot.

Thanks,

Bill

=====================================

Hi folks!

So many have asked for info on the infamous Pluck-O-Meter I thought the best
thing to do would be to photograph and post it on a website. The address is:

   http://www.ctg.net/redstone/acme

The smaller and neater of the two is 140mm long, 40mm wide and 18mm thick.
After trying various springs, I concluded the optimum is made from .36mm (.014")
spring steel piano-type wire, made by wrapping the wire round a nail in a drill
chuck With care, you can make them very neatly, but it isn't necessary to
make them perfect - the ratty looking ones work just fine, and are, after all,
hidden inside! Just make sure that the over-all diameter is less than the
depth of the cavity in the wood body!

Anyone having problems, write me, and I will answer you personally.

N.B. - I don't use the spring steel wire in my instruments!!! I just keep it
for when some misguided soul asks me to restring a Sperrhake or a Neupert or
other such disaster.

Best!

Redstone
