Regarding cleaning the corroded strings--- I don't know what others think
but there seems to be a reaction against cleaning many metals with steel
wool these days as it leaves micro particles that can interact with other
metals, even other iron alloys, and commence electrolytic corrosion. For
many, Scotch Brite has now taken the place of steel wool. In aircraft
repair use of steel wool on the hull is taboo and we always used Scotch
Brite. I use the latter when cleaning piano strings.
