Hi Benjamin,

Ambitus may be a better term than tessitura. Although most people reserve
that for medieval works, it certainly means range of a piece. Then again,
'range' is probably the best term after all.

Are you wanting an instrument to play 'all of Bach'? Is that the rationale?

Scarlatti's overall ambitus is interesting because you can clearly see he
had F-f''' instruments and G-g''' ones at various stages, but not, if I am
correct, F-g''' instruments.
