Landon - contact me off list re: replacement tongues for the Baldwin.
[log in to unmask] I may be able to help.
The width dimension you mention is awfully narrow 0.14 inches. There
will be very little substance on either side of the plectrum mortise and
it may not be practical to punch a slot wide enough for a plectrum -
hence no doubt why the Baldwin jack has a molded-on plectrum. It may or
may not be possible to make a tongue out of wood. Is there room in the
jack slot for a wider tongue? Say about 4.5 mm or 0.175 inch? Also,
what is the condition of the spring? Could be the only solution wold be
to make new jacks. Then we'd have freedom to design as we choose.
Best regards,
Norm
