>Norm wroter Facebook ... friend requests ... growing like a cancer ... all
kinds of unwanted garbage.
Dear Norm,
at least for me, Facebook is:
- a good place to read news,
- a reasonable place to post some own ideas,
- a nasty place where via "friendship" you collect lots of garbage.
HOWEVER, you surely are aware that the Friendship feature can be opted out
in your own Facebook settings, which is what I have done.
I have no Friends, very seldom get a suggestion to look at a list of
possible friends (which I cannot accept having the feature disabled!)
and I get no garbage at all.
This is my own Facebook model, which I suggest to anybody with minimum
trouble:
- I have my own Facebook page where I advertise on the rare occasions where
I wish to broadcast any public activity or publication.
- I have Friendship is disabled.
- I have subscribed to a handful of Groups: I only get notified if somebody
intervenes in an exchange where I have intervened before. I can opt out of
any Group at any time, if I wish.
Best
