Well, that didn’t take long! Ordered yesterday, delivered today. Not bad.
The handle (branded Micro-Mark, Pakistan) is hefty and looks quite nicely made. Brushed stainless steel by the looks of it with prominent, grippy knurling. The collet threading looks clean & it turns easily. The blades are also from Pakistan (Havel, a well known manufacturer I have come to respect) and packaged as sterile surgical blades. Where they deviate from the Beaver product is the stock. Beaver blades were made from 0.020” stock, perfect for 0.020” delrin (~0.5mm). These are made from 0.025” stock (~0.6mm). So, I don’t think robustness is an issue.
For use as knives, the edge finishing seems fine, too. Hollow ground both sides, buffed on one. Like other Havel blades, they easily accommodate right-handers. Of those on offer, the number 62 blade will likely be the most useful to folks dealing with harpsichords. The number 61 is teeny. Cute, but uselessly teeny. OTOH, I’d much rather this were available to any surgeon operating on MY eyes.
Best,
Hendrik
