Hi H peeps,

Well, from my point of view here in California, all's freaked out on
the western front.

Not to get into politics much, here, but -- We were devastated by
Trump's "win" of the presidency (Clinton has something like a 2
million vote lead in popular vote, we need to reform the electoral
college).

https://www.bustle.com/articles/194415-how-to-reform-the-electoral-college-if-the-2016-results-have-you-ready-to-fight

I worked the polls, as a clerk (6 am - 9:15 pm with 2, 1-hour breaks,
we got paid $95) -- a lot of new voters who I'm pretty sure were
voting for Clinton, good turnout -- we were hopeful. Then we were
just devastated to hear the news Wednesday morning. It takes about a
month to finish counting the provisional votes (which tend to favor
democrats, you vote provisional if your name isn't on the voter
roster, which often happens when you move), so Clinton's lead in
popular votes will grow.

I'm working on getting our annual Alameda Sing-it-yourself Messiah gig
happening,
but it's hard for me to prioritize that -- I'm doing it, but it's hard --
because Goddess forbid, suddenly we're at much greater risk of nuclear
war, I'm about to start Medicare in March when I turn 65 but
Trump/Pence/Ryan want to dismantle and privatize it (and Social
Security) -- they want to dismantle "Obamacare" which brought health
insurance to millions who couldn't get it before, I know people who
are literally alive because of Obamacare --

(and the republicans obstructed improvements to Obamacare, that they
are now ranting about -- but they are what stopped those
improvements).

I volunteer teach at Bay Area Girls Rock Camp, it's feminist
empowerment using music as a metaphor. A lot of our population are
people of color, a lot don't pay anything for the programs, it's a
really great program, I've volunteered there since summer 2011. We're
having a grieving/WTF/support get together tonight, around karaoke (!
I'm going to suggest Barry Mcguire's "Eve of destruction", there's
also a great parody of the Byrd's "Mr. Tambourine Man", "Mr. Tangerine
Man"). Our winter program starts in January. I'm sure many of our
students are worried they'll be deported, and the incidence of hate
crimes is way up, even here.

The thing that gets me the most is, if those people voting for Trump
had used a tiny bit of critical thinking, they would never have voted
for Trump -- he is not going to be the working class man's friend,
he's going to skew everything even more to the very very richest.

Pence is terrifying. Some of these guys believe in the so-called,
long-discredited "conversion therapy" for gay people.
I'm gay. I'm working class, low income, female.

So, those of you in the rest of the world, please know a whole lot of
us in the USA are very distraught, and we want you to know we are
totally against Trump. The parallels to Hitler are very real and very
scary.

Gesine

people against ikk)
