Huguette Dreyfus was an extraordinary harpsichordist and a complete
musician. She knew so much about every aspect of music. There was such
warmth in her playing. I was one of her pupils, and it was always a pleasure
to go to her apartment and have a private lesson with her. What charisma she
had. I have only one regret, that is, not to have known her earlier in my
life. She was the best teacher I ever had. With Huguette Dreyfus, everything
was easy. A simple gesture on her part, and empathy was established between
teacher and pupil.

I am ashamed to say that I never heard Huguette Dreyfus, who died
recently. According to one of her students, Orhan Memed, she made an
incredibly large number of recordings of an amazingly varied
repertoire. These are currently listed at Norman Lebrecht's blog
