Very interesting Tom, thanks!

Certainly I have no reason to doubt Barnes and all this evidence that
clearly indicates a 1/6 S.c. meantone fretting.

Let me just to mention something most of us know very well, I just repeat it
for those in the list not familiar with the matter. Top temperament scholars
such as Rudolf Rasch and Patrizio Barbieri both find compelling evidence
that from mid-18th c. onwards German-speaking musicians had universally
embraced Equal Temperament.

In other words, Hubert's clavichord fretting temperament does not seem to
reflect average contemporary practice, but rather a by then outmoded
tradition. This, of course, is consistent with making a fretted clavichord
when for decades the prevailing fashion had been for unfretted ones.
