Davitt,

I was glad you mentioned John Toll. He seemed to be a lovely man, and he 
was a wonderful continuo player, as you stated. I felt his loss acutely.

One other person I don't think has been mentioned (but I may have missed 
it...) is Yella Pessl. I only mention this because I knew her from an 
early age. And she and my mom, Chonghyo Shin, a pianist and piano 
teacher at Amherst College (still, at age 81), were friends. Yella Pessl 
was the first person I ever heard play the Brandenburg 5 live, on her 
old Maendler-Schramm instrument, in a performance in Massachusetts. I 
had no interest in harpsichord, yet, but perhaps, in some subliminal 
way, it started me on the path I have since taken.
