Sad news, if not entirely unexpected.
Tagliavini was a giant. And a wonderful person. Also an amusing raconteur
and a generous, vivacious host. Music came out of every pore of his body,
and I never saw him without a warm smile on his face.
He managed to reconcile that very difficult combination of an extremely
clear awareness of who he was along with a genuine humility. Like a good
Italian Ricercare he was always searching, asking questions, proposing
solutions. And always calmly and elegantly.
The world is poorer without him, but he remains a model of how to live a
rich life of music, taking a lot of pleasure while giving a lot more
pleasure to other people along the way.
