I think the author originally intended the app for guitars, and
people then started using it for other instruments. One can define,
for instance, the four cello strings and these display in the same
manner as the guitar strings. Having chosen a temperament, one can
use it for all 12 notes in all octaves, if one wishes. Personally, I
use it only to establish the basic 1/4 comma C-G-D-A-E fifths that
are common to many tunings, either by checking what I have done or,
if I feel tired (or lazy), setting the four pitches. I find the
measurement discrimination of PitchLab is finer than I can actually
set the string, a discrepancy of half a cent from ideal often being
the best that can be achieved, though perfectly adequate, of course.
