Subject: transpose up an octive

whenever a piece of music has the notes of the left hand spread beyond
reach ... s. rampe mentiined ... that it was a well known practice to
transpose whatever notes up an octive in order to solve the problem ...
what historical treatise or musical publication contains the instruction
of this practice.?

I do not wish to seem simplistic but I would have thought that this
solution was obvious and hardly needs to be explained in detail in a
treatise. I have been doing it for years. Sometimes if I want to retain
the composer's low bass notes I transpose an inner part up an octave if
this provides a practical solution.
