The usual way to get a handle on it is the amount of foreshortening in
the bass. The Obici is extreme. We strung it in brass, then with Voss
wire, and now have it in P-wire, which sounds great.
I dont know any way to pin down those with less foreshortening than the
Obici,
If you have a choicem you might have a preferred pitch, which would
affect the choice.
