Hi Michael,

thanks for noting this very late prescription for this ... ehm ... idiocy.
After all, decades later Montal wrote that there were inept tuners trying to
get ET by tuning most fifths pure: obviously the result was disastrous.

The "violin temperament" you quote from German sources was first described
in France by Petit (c.1740): find a full analysis in my UT book, section

21.14 THE DELUSION OF VIOLIN-FRIENDLY TEMPERAMENT

In a nutshell: it does not work, and there is no way it can possibly work.
