the culprits), I think it would be really helpful if there were a site on
YouTube or even a contribution on this List as to how to tune by only using
our ears.
There are interesting sites online that give an inkling into the topic
(Ketil Haugsand, Trevor Stephenson) but I haven't found any slow, careful,
pedagogically well prepared instructions about listening for pure or narrow
fifths. Any offers from experienced List members?
Dear Philip,
You are right, I do not recall at present any webpage with FREE full
pedagogical instructions about learning to tune by listening to beats and
thus gauging how narrow or wide an interval is.
However, if we are ready to pay the specialists for their hard work
(which is what I did when I first learned to tune pianos and harpsichords
long ago)
the matter has been fully explained in different textbooks for over a
century.
These books are easily found by googling and are well known to quite a few
list members.
