a 1967 large model C, 2 manuals, 16' 2 x 8' 4' . Serviced, releathered, voiced and regulated. The jacks were previously sent to me, releathered in my workshop, brought back to the instrument, in Bergen, NO. In fact this de Blaise is far less of a plucking piano than the Pleyels I've seen and serviced. A totally HIP instrument for Ligeti, Berio and then some. It shares some idiosyncracies with the Pleyels, though: the upper manual operates the long 8'strings, the lower manual 8' jacks work on the short strings. However, the 4' jacks are on the upper manual as well, as are the nasale jacks. The lower manual carries the 8' and 16' jacks. No laminated soundboard here, no overhead dampers, no wound strings either. The lowest FFF string is a massive plain 1,63 mm brass string. The coupling was a bit erratic, but not to difficult to even out, adding slips of paper between the block from which the pivoting couplers are suspended and the underside of the upper manual keys. All those couplers ride in a double rail which tilts them to free or engage position. The lower manual keys have a stepped recess, felted. Every possoble pivot is felt-bushed, though, even the tongue axles are felt-bushed. Still, one of the more pleasant and tonefull modern harpsichords.
