That might be possible. The strings themselves weren't very clear. It's only on the string windings around the tuning pins that I noticed it wasn't yellow brass. The color does indeed match that of phosphor bronze. Isn't that a relic from the past?
I've already dropped a hint to the owner that some restringing might work wonders on the sound of his instrument.
