We polished piano strings at Broadwoods with a carborundum ink eraser. I'll show my age, that was 65 years ago!! You will of course try 0000wire wool Martin. Regarding your storage, I have never had problems with my paper stored strings in my tuning bag and would say there is damp and humidity around in you home or shop.

>Hi all, I've run into some corrosion problems. I previously prepared looped spares, and sorted these in paper envelopes, only to find them corroded later.
>This leads to two questions:
>1 how to best clean them? I have lots of ideas here, but I'd like to see what others have done to good results.
>2 what to keep spares in if not paper envelopes?
>best regards, martin
