Todays recital was a harpsichord recital, the artist was Dr. Paul Cienniwa.
I have heard Dr. Cienniwa play the organ, at MIT Chapel and wanted to hear
him on the harpsichord. Hos programme was: Huitiéme Ordre, François
Couperin,
La Raphaéle, Allemande: L'Ausoniéne, Premiere Courante, Seconde Courante,
Sarabande: L'Unique, Gavotte, Rondeau, Gigue, Rondeau: Passacaille. Dr.
Cienniwa played beautifully, I enjoyed Couperin on the harpsichord better
than I do on the organ. His instrument is a Kevin Spindler harpsichord,
built about a year ago, for use with Early French music in mind. Dr.
Cienniwa did his undergraduate degree at DePaul University, with
harpsichordist Roger Goodman, and organ with Jerome Butera. He received his
Doctor of Musical Arts degree from Yale University, where he was a student
of Richard Rephann. He has also studied harpsichord with Peter Watchorn,
John Whitelaw and David Schrader. He is currently Director of Music at
First Church, in Boston.
