Today was the fourth concert in the series (one more to go). The performer today was Paul Cienniwa. He is Music Director of First Church, Boston, MA, Director Newport Baroque and Sine Nomine, choral ensemble.
His program was, Concerto, Jacob Druckmüller, Präludium - Allegro - Largo - Vivace.
Settima Toccata, Michelangelo Rossi. Capriccio, attrib. J.P. Sweelinck. Three Short Pieces, Op. 34, Karl Henning (b. 1960)-1. CanzonaSemplice, 2. O Beauteous Heavenly Light, 3. Fancy on Psalm 80 from the Scottish Psalter. Prelude & Fugue in G minor, BWV 535, J.S. Bach.
I always enjoy going to concerts with pieces I don't know, and today there were several. All were played very well and fit the instrument perfectly. The Henning pieces were interesting and I enjoyed them, I would like to hear more of this composer. The Bach was well played and it too was unfamiliar to me, glad I heard it. All in all, an excellent concert.
There will be one more concert in this series, a Spring Series is planned and will start on February 25, 2010.
